1. About these terms

SOVRAN LTD is registered in England and Wales, company number 15895560. Our registered office and contact details are shown above.

These terms cover the Sovran app and sovran.money website provided by the operator identified above (Sovran, we, us). The app combines a Cashu ecash wallet with Nostr social features, messaging, and optional services. Features vary by platform and version. Separate purchase terms and third-party terms may apply to particular services; these terms do not replace them.

In the app, you agree by selecting the terms checkbox and confirming. Reading our website or Privacy Policy does not by itself constitute consent to optional data processing. You must be at least 18, have the legal capacity to agree, and use the services only where your activities are lawful.

2. Understand the risks before adding money

Cashu ecash is experimental. Bugs, compromised devices, lost keys, double spending, dishonest counterparties, service failures, and unavailable or insolvent mints can cause permanent loss. Use only small amounts you can afford to lose. The app does not guarantee profit, stable value, deposit insurance, or uninterrupted access. A mint’s redemption obligations are governed by its own terms and applicable law; these terms do not cancel those obligations.

The wallet lets you control local keys and ecash proofs. You rely on the issuing mint to maintain any promised backing and redeem its ecash. The app does not verify its reserves. Holding ecash is not the same as holding bitcoin directly on-chain. A listed or recommended mint, rating, balance, or successful test is not proof of reserves or a guarantee. Check the issuer and its terms, including for any Sovran-branded mint; these app terms do not promise that every mint is independent of Sovran.

An issuer may impose redemption deadlines or require ecash issued under retired keys to be refreshed. Check its terms and notices; recovery may depend on redeeming or refreshing before a deadline.

The app sends requests to mints and payment services to carry out actions you authorize. Some enabled features automate steps, including receiving ecash and routing swaps through intermediary mints. Review destinations, units, amounts, permissions, fees, and trust settings. A timeout does not necessarily mean a payment failed: check its status before retrying. Offline receipt is not final validation that ecash is spendable.

3. Protect your wallet and identity

Protect your device, recovery phrases, private keys, ecash tokens, backups, and any remote signer. Anyone obtaining bearer ecash or a private key may spend funds or act as you. Do not send these secrets to support or post them publicly. A public Nostr key is an identifier, not a password.

Keep suitable backups before deleting data, uninstalling, importing accounts, or changing devices. A Nostr key alone does not restore your Cashu wallet. Imported identities may require their own key backups. Seed recovery depends on the relevant mint, protocol support, and transaction history; it is not a guarantee of recovering every token, message, or balance. Sovran does not offer a master password reset or a guaranteed reversal or recovery service.

You are responsible for the transactions, signer permissions, and third-party connections you authorize and for applicable taxes and lawful use. This responsibility does not remove our own legal obligations or your rights where we are at fault.

4. Other services and paid features

Mints, relays, indexers, media hosts, remote signers, AI providers, network operators, and merchants have their own availability, charges, privacy practices, and terms. The app may use default services before you customize them. The Privacy Policy explains the resulting data flows.

AI prompts and selected conversation context or attachments are sent to the provider you use. Generated responses can be inaccurate or harmful; verify important information. Neither app content nor AI output is personalized financial, legal, tax, or medical advice.

Payment fees, AI credit purchases, and eSIM purchases can create obligations separate from using the free app. Review the amount, supplier, delivery, validity, compatibility, cancellation, and refund terms shown for that purchase before paying. A network payment may be irreversible even where you retain a legal claim for a refund. These terms do not waive statutory cancellation or refund rights.

5. Public content and acceptable use

Public Nostr posts, profiles, reactions, reports, and location-channel messages may be copied, indexed, and retained outside Sovran. Do not publish secrets, bearer tokens, or another person’s personal information without a lawful basis. You retain rights to your own content and must have the rights needed to share it. You authorize the processing and distribution necessary to carry out your requested publication; you are not transferring ownership to Sovran.

Do not use Sovran to share child sexual abuse material, sexual exploitation, non-consensual intimate imagery, pornography or sexually explicit nudity, gratuitous graphic violence, credible threats, harassment, hateful abuse, scams, malware, stolen material, or other unlawful content. Do not evade protective measures or interfere with other users or services.

Use a post or profile’s report and block controls for objectionable content. A Nostr report is a public signed event that can identify you and the reported account or post. It is not a private complaint or a guarantee that a relay or moderator will act. You can also contact the operator above for concerns about Sovran-operated services. Blocking hides supported content in your app; it does not erase it from the network or stop someone using another identity.

For services under our control, we may restrict content or access where reasonably necessary to address unlawful activity, these rules, or security threats. We will explain the reason where appropriate and legally permitted. Contact us to challenge a restriction. We cannot remove every copy held by independent services or recipients.

6. Availability, changes, and stopping use

We maintain evolving software and cannot promise that every feature will always be available or free of defects. Keep backups and install appropriate security updates. We will give reasonable notice of significant changes or discontinuation where practicable; urgent security or legal issues may require faster action. Changes do not retrospectively remove accrued rights or change an already completed purchase.

Each app version includes copies of these terms and the Privacy Policy. When an installed update changes either document, the app asks you to review and confirm again. Website changes alone do not silently record agreement in an older app. You may read both documents in Settings or at https://sovran.money/terms and https://sovran.money/privacy.

If you do not agree to new terms, stop using the affected services. The review screen offers access to existing recovery information without recording agreement. Secure your keys and funds before deleting local data. Removing the app or a local profile does not reverse payments or erase public network records.

7. Responsibility and your legal rights

The risk notices explain the limitations of experimental software and independent networks. They do not make you waive all claims against us. We are not responsible for loss caused solely by an independent third party or by your own actions where we have not breached a duty owed to you. This does not excuse our own failure to exercise legally required care or perform obligations we have undertaken.

Nothing here excludes liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that the law does not allow us to exclude. Mandatory consumer rights concerning digital content, services, accuracy of descriptions, reasonable care, and remedies remain available. We do not impose a blanket indemnity, mandatory paid arbitration, or a waiver of class or collective rights.

If a problem arises, contact the operator above with non-secret details. Trying to resolve it with us is optional and does not restrict your right to approach a regulator or competent court. Applicable law determines jurisdiction and your rights; these terms do not require consumers to give up mandatory protections in their country. If a provision is invalid, the remaining provisions apply where they can lawfully do so.

8. Software licenses

The source code and included third-party components remain subject to their respective open-source licenses. These terms govern the services and user conduct; they do not revoke permissions granted by those licenses. Independently operated forks and third-party deployments are not automatically operated or endorsed by Sovran.
